My grandmother's passion for bird watching left a lasting impression on me as a child. I spent many hours mesmerised by her bird feeders, where I was treated to vibrant gatherings and flying dances. Among these displays, the goldfinch always stood out. It really captured my imagination with its vibrant colours, sturdy beak and beautiful song. I vividly recall asking if this stunning bird truly belonged in an English garden, unable to believe that such an exotic creature could be native to our landscape. Even now, the sight of a goldfinch evokes a sense of wonder and nostalgia for those enchanting moments, symbolising luck and the beauty of discovery. Each encounter with this colourful bird transports me back to a childlike state, when the world felt more vivid and filled with magic.

I meticulously paint the original image in gouache; I try to capture the bird's intricate details and vibrant colours. The Giclée print is reproduced from the original painting and is created on xpression textured 300gsm archival paper, ensuring that the quality and texture enhance the visual depth of the image. Each print is unique; I apply gold leaf by hand, adding a distinctive touch that reflects my artistic process. This handcrafted approach means that no two prints are ever exactly the same, making each piece a truly original work of art infused with my personal touch.
