Nuthatch

During a family holiday to the Peak District, I encountered a nuthatch for the first time, a sighting that left me intrigued. With its striking black stripe across the eye and vibrant blue plumage, this small bird immediately captivated me. Inspired by its beauty, I aimed to enhance its natural colours in my painting. Delving deeper into the nuthatch's behaviour, I was fascinated to learn that these birds not only store food for winter but also exhibit incredible intelligence by using tools to extract insects from tree bark. They even roost in groups for extended periods, showcasing their social nature. To me, the nuthatch embodies the tenacity and ingenuity that we must summon in our own lives, particularly when it comes to nurturing and sustaining family bonds. I love it when observing nature helps me to understand and reflect upon truths that exist within myself and my own family and art practice. 

I meticulously paint the original image in gouache; I try to capture the bird's intricate details and vibrant colours. The Giclée print is reproduced from the original painting and is created on xpression textured 300gsm archival paper, ensuring that the quality and texture enhance the visual depth of the image. Each print is unique; I apply gold leaf by hand, adding a distinctive touch that reflects my artistic process. This handcrafted approach means that no two prints are ever exactly the same, making each piece a truly original work of art infused with my personal touch. I sign each print by hand and add the edition number. Ideal for bird lovers and art enthusiasts alike, this print brings a touch of nature's beauty into any space.
