In the serene wooded cemetery bordering my garden in Norwich, the jay, a striking member of the corvid family alongside crows and magpies, is a familiar yet thrilling sight. Each time I catch a glimpse of their vibrant blue plumage darting between the trees, a rush of excitement surges through me. Even though they are a common sight, these birds possess an elusive quality that captivates my imagination. Their tendency to flit about without lingering invites curiosity, making them a source of inspiration for my art. I find myself drawn to their shyness and the vibrant splash of color they bring to the landscape, compelling me to capture their essence in gouache. Through painting, I seek to convey the beauty and intrigue of these remarkable creatures, celebrating the small wonders found in my everyday surroundings.
