The great spotted woodpecker is truly a jewel among the birds native to the UK, displaying striking colors and lively energy. Living near a densely wooded cemetery has given me the unique opportunity to hear the characteristic tapping of its beak on tree bark, a sound that resonates with nature's rhythm. Often, I catch glimpses of its bright red underbelly as it flits gracefully from tree to tree, a fleeting moment that ignites a sense of excitement and appreciation for this rare and elusive creature. Every sighting feels like a privilege, a reminder that we don’t have to venture into tropical climates to experience the vibrancy and beauty of wildlife. With this painting, I aimed to capture and celebrate the rich local nature that surrounds me, showcasing the wonders that can be found right in our backyard.

The Giclée print is reproduced from the original painting and is created on xpression textured 300gsm archival paper, ensuring that the quality and texture enhance the visual depth of the image. Each print is unique; I apply gold leaf by hand, adding a distinctive touch that reflects my artistic process. This handcrafted approach means that no two prints are ever exactly the same, making each piece a truly original work of art infused with my personal touch.
