Capturing the natural world
Aimee Gallagher is a professional artist and writer based in Norfolk, United Kingdom.
Every Image Tells a Story
We all live our lives through stories, the ones we experience first hand, the ones we tell ourselves, and the ones we fall in love with. These stories ultimately define us as individuals. Every painting I create is made because I have had a connection with the subject at some point in my life; making the painting solidifies the story into a concrete visual thing: a snapshot of feeling.
Please read the stories that inspired me to create each painting. They may resonate with you.....
With this series of birds and insects, I have created images that symbolise a moment, an emotion and a memory. They are inherently beautiful because they are inspired by nature; but they also contain a beauty stemming from the positive impact each subject has had upon me as a human and an artist.
Each subject is surrounded by a halo of gold, an element that not only represents opulence and light but also stability. We wear gold because it does not react with the chemicals we encounter in our everyday activities. For me it is a symbol of security and permanence; the concept that ideas and emotions not only have longevity but also POWER!
About Aimee Gallagher
Aimee Gallagher is a fine artist based in Norfolk. She studied History of Art at Cambridge University and went on to work in the studio of Damien Hirst. She has been working on intricately detailed oil, gouache and watercolour paintings inspired by nature since 2012 and it is this detail that makes her work come alive. Her passion lies in focusing on the tiny patterns found in surface form and texture, detail that is often overlooked by the naked eye. She won the Society of Women artist's award for Young Artist of the year in 2013 at the Mall Gallery, London and went on to exhibit works at several London venues, including Show Your Face, Vyner Street, Gallery 223, Waterloo and Dazed and Refused, Bethnal Green. She has had three drawing instruction books published by Arcturus and has recently been writing children's educational books with Quarto. It Starts with a Raindrop has just been released. Since having children she moved with her family to her hometown of Norwich. She is currently working on a series of large scale oil paintings focusing on the detail of butterfly's wings removed from the context of form.
